Supermassive is Working on a New Unannounced Multiplayer Game

With games such as Until Dawn and the ongoing Dark Pictures series under its belt, Supermassive is a studio that’s best known for creating interactive choose-your-own-adventure style experiences, but it seems like the developer also has something else cooking that might be cut from a different cloth.

A job ad for the position of Multiplayer Game Designer on Supermassive’s website (spotted by GamesRadar) mentions that the studio is currently working on a “new, as yet unannounced project.” The job ad itself mentions that the game is looking to feature “varied and compelling multiplayer systems”, and also makes mention of combat and progression mechanics.

While The Dark Pictures titles have, of course, featured multiplayer (and even emphasized it, one might argue), combat and progression systems haven’t really been something the series has focused on. Interestingly, job ads spotted about a year ago suggested that the developer was working on a game with an emphasis on “varied and compelling real-time combat.”

As for what this project could be, that remains to be seen. Supermassive recently sold 30% of its stake to Nordisk, while last year, it was also announced that it had partnered with Stadia for an exclusive project– though where the latter is concerned, there is no word on whether that deal is still even in place.

Of course, in the immediate future, The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me – which will be the season finale for the anthology series – is due out next year. Read more on that through here.
