Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Game Pass – CD Projekt President Says it’s “Too Early”

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the news lately for a myriad of reasons, from CD Projekt RED says it would be perceived as a “very good game in the long run” to rumors of an Xbox Game Pass release. While the latter proved to be false, CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński did address the same again in a recent investor Q&A.

When asked about Cyberpunk 2077 being added to services like Game Pass, Kiciński said, “We always consider any business opportunity, but this kind of subscription model is good at a certain moment of the lifecycle of the product, so not too early. Witcher 3 was for some time in a subscription, but we have to weigh the benefit and cost each time, so we have to compare it to sales, so it’s a decision based on data. It’s way too early for Cyberpunk.”

So while a release on Xbox Game Pass isn’t impossible, subscribers shouldn’t expect it to be added to the service any time soon. The sales point makes sense given that Cyberpunk 2077 sold over 13.7 million units in 2020, despite being on sale for less than a month at release. Of course, that doesn’t account for all of the controversy it faced as well, like bugs and poor performance on previous-gen consoles which caused it to be pulled from the PlayStation Store.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. It’s also slated to release for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 next year along with “gradually” receiving some multiplayer activities.
