PS5 Architecture is Better Than “Any Console in History” – Report

Headlines are abuzz with Sony’s upcoming showcase for games on the PlayStation 5, which is currently set for June 4th. It’s already known that studios, “both larger and smaller” according to Sony, have been working hard on developing games for the console. But it seems the development process itself has been quite enjoyable for some.

Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat, who first reported on the showcase taking place in early June, said that developers and publishers “continue to praise the design of the PS5.” He also noted that some had spoken to the publication about how it “has a better architecture than any console in history.” This is pretty significant in of itself.

That’s because even though the PS5 sports many of the same components as the Xbox Series X – like AMD’s Zen 2 CPU and custom RDNA 2 architecture for the GPU – they’re still very different consoles. Sony recently spoke about how data processing speeds are “approximately 100 times faster” than the PlayStation 4. Games are ultimately what matter but Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Jim Ryan has promised fans “something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5”. We’ll just have to see the results for ourselves next week.

The PS5 is currently slated to release this holiday season and will be available worldwide.
